What's a high-schooler's favorite class? A common answer just might be lunch! As an escape from a busy day of work, lunch is typically an oasis for students who need time away from the books. However, does the school cafeteria satisfy everyone?
At Mt. Juliet, there are two lines for serving lunch: the snack line and the main line. The main line is a double row of cafe staff plating food for students. This line, typically, gets longer, as it's more work for staff and more options of food.
The snack line, on the other hand, has one option each for a side and an entree. It is also quicker, so if a student only wants french fries one day, they can go to the snack line and get out sooner than going to the main line. Both lines also sell packaged snacks and drinks, like those one would purchase in a vending machine.
After asking 16 MJHS students which line they prefer, 8 said they prefer the main line, while 8 said they prefer the snack line.
"I go to the main line because I don't have extra money for the short line to get the smaller snacks for the same price," Zelainy Karnof ('27) said.
"I like the short line better because it's faster and the ladies there are nice," Krista Kirby ('27) said.
But cafeteria lunch isn't the only lunch in the cafeteria. Many student choose to bring their own packed lunch instead. After asking 45 MJHS students whether they prefer purchasing or packing lunch, 29 said they prefer packed, while 16 said they prefer purchased.
"I buy lunch because it's easier for me to do," David Stolinsky ('27) said.
"I bring my lunch because it's better seasoned than the school food, also, it's a good way to get rid of leftovers from home," Herman Stephen ('27) said.
