The Golden Leaf Receives "Superior" Ranking with THSPA

Updated: Mar 25

The 2023 Golden Leaf Yearbook "FIVE WORDS" received a "Superior Overall Yearbook" ranking from the Tennessee High School Press Association (THSPA) with Lipscomb University.

Their specific section ratings were:

  1. Yearbook Coverage: All-Tennessee

  2. Writing and Editing: Superior

  3. Design and Graphics: Superior

  4. Photography and Illustrations: Excellent

  5. Reader Services: Superior

"Coverage is the strongest component of The Golden Leaf 2023," the THSPA judges said. "Publications receiving the Superior rating demonstrate excellence in most areas of production. They consistently integrate writing, design and visuals into the publication."

The highest ranking is All-Tennessee followed by Superior, Excellent and Merit.

"I am thrilled," Yearbook Sponsor Mr. Judkins said. "We made our first and only goal last year to make an awesome yearbook for our students. MJHS holds itself to the highest standard possible which is why we ranked so well in our first year returning the program to state competitions. The yearbook staff is now looking forward to building on this success by making a top-quality 2024 yearbook and striving for the All-Tennessee Overall Yearbook THSPA rating next year."

The Golden Leaf previously entered THSPA's competition and judging in 2017 under Yearbook Sponsor Ms. Tuner's staff, receiving "Excellent Overall Yearbook."
