Mt. Juliet High School's highly anticipated Homecoming activities, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, have been postponed due to inclement weather caused by Hurricane Francine.
The decision to reschedule Homecoming events was made to ensure the safety of students, staff and attendees. The new date for the Homecoming festivities is Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.
Despite the postponement, many of the original Homecoming plans will remain unchanged. The Homecoming parade and pep rally, key parts of the celebration, will now take place on the rescheduled date.
On Sept. 27 the Homecoming Court will still have their official photos taken with photographer Loveless, with the photo session scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in the Commons area. The crowning of the Homecoming Queen will still be held during halftime of the football game.
The football game on Sept. 27 will see the Mt. Juliet Bears facing off against Wilson Central High School Wildcats at home.
The Mt. Juliet High School football team issued a statement early on Tuesday, Sept. 10, announcing this week’s schedule change. The message, which was released during second block, explained that Friday's football game against Warren County had been moved to Thursday, Sept. 12, due to the approaching storm.
The football team captioned their announcement on social media with the phrase, "Sudden change! We don't have to wait until Friday!"
Kickoff for Thursday’s game is set for 7 p.m., allowing the Bears to compete before the worst of the storm hits.
Impact of Hurricane Francine
The primary reason for the postponement is the severe weather forecast brought on by Hurricane Francine.
According to the National Weather Service, the remnants of the hurricane are expected to hit Middle Tennessee starting Thursday night, with the worst conditions lasting through Friday.
The region is predicted to experience heavy rain, high winds, and possible flooding, with the greatest chance of flooding occurring west of Interstate 65.
While the tornado threat is low, severe thunderstorms and localized flooding remain concerns for the area.
Adjustments to School Activities This Week
In addition to the rescheduling of this week's football game and Homecoming events, Mt. Juliet High School has made adjustments to other activities to ensure students still have a spirited week despite the weather.
The school’s pep rally, which was initially scheduled for Friday, will now take place on Thursday during Focus..
This change ensures that students will still have the opportunity to celebrate their school spirit and cheer on their team ahead of Thursday night’s game against Warren County.
A Look Ahead: Homecoming on September 27
Though the postponement of Homecoming may come as a disappointment to some, the new date of September 27 promises to be just as festive.
The parade, pep rally, football game and Homecoming Night schedules are still intact on Sept. 27. The dress-down day schedule will be released on Student Council's social media in the coming week.
The matchup against Wilson Central at home is expected to draw a large student section, and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen at halftime will be a memorable highlight.
As always, safety is the top priority for Mt. Juliet High School, and postponing Homecoming activities was a necessary step to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.
For updates on weather conditions and any further changes to school events, students and families are encouraged to monitor the Nashville Weather Service and the National Weather Service, which will continue to provide updates on Hurricane Francine as it moves through the region.
