Mt. Juliet High School’s new student body president is Morgan Monaco. She has many big plans for this school year and is excited to share some of them.
Monaco is a senior this year, and she is not only the student body president but also the secretary for the school’s National Honor Society and a member of the Future Business Leaders of America organization.
Her life outside of school is filled with just as much fun as it is in school. In her free time, she is a figure skating and hockey coach. Also, she enjoys reading and shopping.
This year Monaco has lots of responsibilities, but she knows how to juggle them thanks to her position last year as the vice president of the student body.

When asked about some of the differences she’s noticed between being vice president and president, she said, “Honestly, I really just have more responsibility. As vice president, I was kind of just a support system for Maggie the former president. I was always at the meetings, but I didn't realize how much planning went into the things we did.”
When asked to go further into detail, she told us about how last year she felt more like a peer rather than a leader. This year she wants to take charge and be the best she can.
As the interview went on, Monaco was asked about her goals for the school year and what she wants to accomplish.
She said, “Through student council, there are many things we are trying to accomplish. Our main one right now is the homecoming dance that we got approved for which is very exciting because students have been asking for one for a really long time. We tried to accommodate with Sadie Hawkins last year which went great, but people's number one thing was a homecoming dance.”
Monaco was very excited while talking about this as her and all of the student council has been pushing for this. Another big thing Monaco wants to accomplish is “Fill the Stands.” With this, she hopes to increase school spirit.
She explained it more and said, “So every sports team will pick one game or match/meet, whatever it may be to go to for that team and it will be heavily advertised so that we can get full student sections because not every team is getting support from their peers.”
Unfortunately, “Fill the Stands” is causing some trouble, Monaco told us that the main goal behind this project is to increase school spirit, but they couldn’t just say that.
“You have to be proactive about it, so we have decided to really run with “Fill the Stands” because we figured giving people one specific thing to go to is a good direction. But it is pretty tough because a majority of people that go to games is because they have a friend on the team, so if you want to show support for your school help fill the stands,” Monaco said.
Moving away from goals and accomplishments, Monaco told us about what type of leader she would like to be. She wants to encourage people in all areas. She said she would like to be a good mix between stern and sweet.
“I try really hard to make everyone feel very welcomed and happy, but I also try to keep them informed and on track. I think in the past, in leadership positions that I've held, I don’t think I did as well as I am this year, so if I keep an even mix of the two I can make a much more positive environment,” Monaco said.
As this is her senior year, Monaco also told us what she hopes the next president will continue with and carry on, and she said that she hopes they’ll help boost school spirit.
“I hope they find a way to boost school spirit because that’s not going to happen in one school year. We’re not going to go from zero to 100 in one year but I hope we continue to grow in that aspect,” Monaco stated.
She also said that she hopes the next president can help homecoming become a lasting dance along with fill the stands and more events that are coming.
