Here is the news to keep you in the know. This week's three large stories:
Squid Game has become the most popular show on Netflix EVER!
This disturbing new Netflix show has caught the attention of people around the globe. It quickly became one of the most popular shows streamed on Netflix. It is the most streamed show in 90 countries including the UK.
Audiences are very intrigued and if the hype around this show continues it could be the most-streamed show in Netflix history.
Rotten Tomatoes gave The Squid Game a 94% on the Tomatometer, and it received an audience score of 86 percent.
The critics' consensus was "Squid Game's unflinching brutality is not for the faint of heart, but sharp social commentary and a surprisingly tender core will keep viewers glued to the screen - even if it's watching between their fingers."
2. The six-hour shutdown of Facebook, What's-app and Instagram left people frazzled!
The outage started just before noon (ET) and lasted for six hours until it was resolved.
An update to Facebook's routers that coordinate network traffic went wrong on Monday, sending a wave of disruption that shut Facebook down along with What's App, Instagram, Oculus, and Messenger.
While all social media sites are back up again, the six hours of no liking posts left the app supporters confused and angry.
This was the worst outage for Facebook since a 2019 incident took it offline for 24 hours. Facebook issued a statement saying that it was a configuration issue.
3. The Mt. Juliet High Band of Gold took home gold at Lebanon Blue Devil Invitational!
The Band of Gold earned the following awards: first place color guard in the 4A class, first place percussion in the 4A class, first place band in 4A class, and overall top band in large division. Superior ratings all around!
The Band of Gold is such an accomplished program they have trophies lined across the room and now are out of space; they are now exploring the possibility of adding an additional shelf under the existing one to fit their newly won trophies.
The assistant band director Weston Demonbreun said that the trophy-fitting issue is "a good problem to have."
This is just the beginning of the band's achievements this season. They still have the possibility of many more wins.
"The band is doing very well, working hard, maintaining high achievement and excellence. The season ends October 23, 2021, which will be the state championships at MTSU. We are all very excited about it," said Band Director Tony Cox.
In other news...
JROTC completed the Wounded Warrior 5k and the Spartan 5k this week.
Both the Piano I and Piano II classes had successful recitals this week during school. "Very good for all performers. Part of the live performance is overcoming nerves and being able to give a good performance. They all did very well and were prepared for their pieces," said Mr. Demonbreun about the Piano I recital.
Tickets for The Diary of Anne Frank are live on GoFan. Performances are Thursday, Nov. 4; Saturday, Nov. 6; Thursday, Nov. 11; and Saturday, Nov. 13.
Girls Soccer defeated Wilson Central 6-0 Tuesday night, making them regular-season champions. They will host the district tournament this coming Tuesday at MJHS.
The Varsity Bears Volleyball team defeated Wilson Central in four sets Tuesday night. They followed this with winning the District 7AAA volleyball tournament, beating Cookeville.
L.O.V.E, Vocal Ensemble and Beginning Choir had a very successful fall concert Tuesday night. "I thought it was a very successful concert. I wish we could have prepared more but due to COVID restraints, we fell behind. Despite this, students overcame all hurdles and sang from their hearts using all the skills we have learned this year!" Choir Director Mrs. Elliot said.
Bear Varsity Football plays LHS away this week with kickoff at 7 p.m.
Yearbook Senior Signatures are due Oct. 8 in B118.
Yearbook Senior Names, Quotes and Accomplishments Google Forms are due Oct. 15. Underclass Name Google Forms are due on Oct. 15 as well.
Yearbook is also selling senior ad space through Nov. 1.
AG Day is Oct. 8. MJHS will have an extended first block with no focus classes.
