The Tragic Death of Kobe Bryant

On Jan. 26, 2020, the world lost one of the most valued and loved basketball players of all time. Early that morning, residents of Calabasas, Calif. heard a helicopter pass overhead, soon followed by the horrific sound of it crashing into a nearby hillside.

Inside of the helicopter was Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, a community college basketball coach named John Altobelli, along with his wife and daughter, Keri and Alyssa. A total of nine people were killed in the crash, but only these five names have been released at this time.

Investigations by multiple federal agencies are underway, but many suspect weather to be the cause. That morning, the Los Angeles Police Department had grounded all of their helicopters due to dense fog in the area. This fog reduced visibility and may have caused the pilot to be unable to see the upcoming hillside.

Around the world, fans and celebrities alike mourn together for the victims of this tragedy. May their legacies continue with the world’s remembrance.
