After Months of Anticipation, the Mueller Report is Finally Released

After the 2016 presidential campaign, speculation rose about whether or not Russia affected the outcome. There were Russian attempts to disrupt the campaign, so people were worried that Trump’s win was rigged. Thus, an investigation began.

Robert Mueller, lawyer and former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was chosen as Special Counsel for the investigation. And finally, two years after the investigation began, he finished the report. It was handed over to Attorney General William Barr. And to many people’s surprise, there was not adequate evidence to show collusion between Russia and Trump’s campaign.

“The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone else associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election,” Barr said in a summary of the report.

Mueller investigated through a couple different ways. He acquired thousands of emails from the people associated with Trump and interviewed many more. His team consisted of 19 lawyers and 40 FBI agents.

Also in the summary, Barr said that “the Special Counsel issued more than 2,800 subpoenas, executed nearly 500 search warrants, obtained more than 230 orders for communication records, issued almost 50 orders authorizing use of pen registers, made 13 requests to foreign governments for evidence, and interviewed approximately 500 witnesses.”

Together they looked into two different aspects of the case: Russian interference and whether there was obstruction of justice by the president. In the end, they had nothing sound to convict anyone. However, Mueller could not come to a conclusion as to whether or not there was obstruction of justice by Trump and his people. The report “does not exonerate him.”

However, Trump was still quick to declare to victory about the report.

On Twitter, he said, “No collusion, no obstruction, complete and total exoneration. Keep America great!”

Individuals around the country have started to demand to see the report and speculate that it could contain some damaging information against President Trump. Sources say that the report itself is more than 300 pages. Members of both parties want to know what parts were left out in Barr’s four page summary.

Despite the summary of the report, Democrats still do not trust him. Trump faces a multitude of investigations and lawsuits. More than 12 cases are still lined up against Trump.

This includes the money he used for his campaigns in 2016, as some believe they came from foreign nations, the hush money given to Stormy Daniels, the women who allegedly had an affair with Trump and the possible illegal acts that took place within the Trump Foundation.

As of right now, Trump is in the clear. But with these investigations, this could easily change.
