Mt. Juliet's "Sandlot"

Baseball season is coming up MJ Bears! Like Jack Northworth said, “Take me out to the ball game.” Students from MJ are already pumped for this season!

“I’m super excited for baseball season because it's fun to watch other teams lose. I would go to all of the games because it's fun to see another schools lose,” stated Makayla Prophit.

Tickets are only five dollars each to support your Bears!

“Our biggest supporters are teammates, coaches, parents, and some fans,” explained Colton Regen.

MJHS Baseball team just finished their first scrimmage against Creekwood 11-17 on Thursday, February 28, 2019. The next varsity game is Friday, March 15 at McMinn County and the next JV game is Tuesday, March 19 at Portland High school.

“We practice from two to six thirty so it's a lot of time since October,” said Anthony Buckland.

With losing some terrific seniors players from last year, the baseball team is planning some new strategies and improvements for this upcoming season. One player to keep an eye out for on the team is the only sophomore on Varsity, Colton Regen.

“We are improving on team chemistry and learning where we all play. We hit the weight room hard and trained when other teams weren’t,” explained Colton Regen.

So don’t worry, MJ’s Baseball team has a plan.

“Last year we were really good. We lost some seniors last year who contributed a lot as pitchers and hitters, so this year we’re going to have to depend on some younger guys that didn’t get to play a lot last year. That’s the biggest area, just depending on guys that didn’t get to play as much but we think they can step up and play pretty well,” said Coach Hill.

The good thing about the Seniors leaving is that it gives others the opportunity to rise to the plate.

Two Freshman are currently on the varsity team, so keep a lookout for Anthony Buckland and Austin Hunley. Anthony Buckland talks about what's it like to be on the team with the upperclassmen.

“I feel comfortable with all the dudes there… it might take a few games to get settled in but no I’m not scared of anything. I’ve known all these dudes all my life and my brother is on varsity so it's good to kind of experience them their senior year,” said Anthony Buckland.

The season is just getting started, so be sure to support MJ’s baseball! Go Bears!
