Most Anticipated Young Adult Novels of 2018

The year of 2018 is going to be a momentous year for young adult novels. The types of novels this year range from fantasy to science fiction and to contemporary. Many authors are adding to existing series, and many are introducing new worlds. Readers all around are getting ready for the countless books.

There is one book, though, that stands out to many. When asked which book they were most anticipating this year, the majority of people claimed that Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi is the YA novel they are most looking forward to.

Avid reader Sabrina Austin said, “I am so excited for Restore Me. It is definitely number one on my list.”

The reason gave by the readers was that they have been waiting on it for forever. The first three books of the series concluded in 2014 with Ignite Me. The author, Tahereh Mafi, just announced last year that she had decided to add to the series. Fans of the Shatter Me series rejoiced. This addition to the series will come out on March 6, starting off right where the original trilogy left off. There will be two more additions to the science fiction series after this year.

Also coming this year is the last addition to the Throne of Glass series written by Sarah J. Maas. Emma Sherk, a bibliophile herself, is most anticipating the seventh and final book of the fantasy series out of the books coming this year. Sarah J. Maas fans all around are excited yet scared for what the book will hold and how it will end, afraid for the lives of their favorite characters.

“Sarah J. Maas obviously stands out to me this year. She is coming out with so many books,” Austin said.

The popular young adult author has been busy writing this year. Between tours and events, Maas has written four books to come out this year. The World of Throne of Glass, A Court of Frost and Starlight, Catwoman: Soulstealer and Throne of Glass seven are due to be released throughout the year.

Goodreads users have voted in the most anticipated book of the year themselves. According to the list of YA Novels of 2018, War Storm by Victoria Aveyard is the number one choice. The novel is the fourth of the series, and it will be wrapping up the Red Queen books. Readers are sad for the series to end, but excited to see what Aveyard does next.

Sabrina Austin commented, “I am super excited for the book and super upset that the series is coming to an end. At least it seems that Victoria is working on another book.”

Other authors are adding to their loved series as well. Cassandra Clare, the author of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series, is adding the novel Queen of Air and Darkness to her series, The Dark Artifices. Sherk originally picked this novel as her most anticipated choice before remembering her excitement and changing her mind.

The sequel to Stephanie Garber’s novel, Caraval, will be coming out later this year. This addition to the fantasy series has been named Legendary and is expected to hit the shelves on May 29. The story of this novel falls around Donatella Dragna, the sister of the main character from the first book.

The novel A Reaper at the Gates is expected to be published June 12 of this year, and many readers are psyched for the book. It is the third installment of the Ember Quartet series written by Sabaa Tahir, following An Ember in the Ashes and A Torch Against the Night.

There are more novels people are looking forward to that are not apart of a series yet as well. To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo is a standalone novel planned to come out on March 6. The fantasy novel is described to be filled with sirens and magic.

The well known author Tamora Pierce is coming out with a young adult novel in early February. Tempests and Slaughter will be the first installment in her new series, The Numair Chronicles. Fans of her previous books, including the Song of the Lioness series and the Daughter of the Lioness series, are thrilled that she is coming out with a new book. This year is going to be one for the books.
