YouTube Rewind is a yearly tradition that began on December 9, 2015. The purpose of this video is to take all of the viral moments of the year and put them all into a video as a time capsule of sorts.
The past two YouTube Rewinds have been called “Watch Me 2015” and “YouTube Rewind the Ultimate 2016 Challenge.”
This year’s video included a soundtrack with a mix of the year's most popular songs, including Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” and “I’m the One,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Be Humble,” Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do,” and Smashmouth’s “All Star.”
It also had a cast of very popular YouTube personalities including David Dobrik, Anthony Padilla, Liza Koshy, Poppy, Lily Singh, Jake and Logan Paul, Dan and Phil, Gabbie Hanna, Josh Pieters, Lele Pons and many more!
Some of the trends that were displayed include colorful slime, fidget spinners, gluing sequens to your face, and the game “the floor is lava.”
The video covered many things that happened this year, including the total eclipse and even the more off putting things such as the hurricanes; however, many feel as though it was missing something.
“I can’t really think of anything specific that it was missing, but I just didn’t like the video,” says Isabella Reeder.
Austin Bull said, “I didn't get any Pewdiepie and not nearly enough Dan and Phil, so I liked it but it was missing a couple things.”
When asked their opinion on the video an anonymous source says, “It was good I guess, but no one is ever going to be totally happy with it. Everyone follows different YouTubers and different trends, so we won't all see our favorite [things]. But it was entertaining.”
All in all, whether the video was missing something or not, it documents the happenings of the year in just a seven minute video!
