The MJHS girls’ basketball team season has just begun. So far they have started the season with a loss to Blackman High School and Lebanon, which makes the team 5-2.
Coach Fryer, the head coach, has high expectations for his girls this year.
“Even without a senior on the team I think they can get better. I would just like to see them get better and improve and see how far we can go. You never know where that’s going to end up, but hopefully we’ll continue to show improvement, and by the end of the season, we’ll be playing our best basketball game,” he said.
Each year, they get a new group of girls that try out. Players like Emma Palmer, sophomore, has been playing since she was three and hasn’t stopped since. She also has expectations for the team this season.
“I definitely want to see us go to state,” she said.
Everyone has their own reason for playing, but Palmer plays because she loves the exhilaration and the feeling of winning. Sometimes it isn’t all about winning though, some may like that being on a team because it feels like another family. You win and lose with them.
These girls work hard and condition everyday so they can reach the goals set for the team.
Next time the team has a game, come out and support them. Their effort and attitude are just one way these girls represent the school spirit of Mount Juliet.
