Texas Church Shooting Takes More Than 26 Lives

The worst church mass shooting in American history occurred in the small town of Sutherland Springs, Texas.

A tragic happening that took the life of more than 26 people, including an unborn child and injured more than 20, devastated the entire community. Upon identification, the victims include 10 women, seven men, eight children and an unborn child. Ages ranging from 77 to a one year old. Eight of the 26 victims belonged to one single family.

Who is this ruthless killer who came with the intention to kill? Devin Kelley. Devin Kelley, 26, was revealed to be a man with a troubling past and list of convictions. He, who was once a part a part of the air force, was convicted in 2012 for assaulting his wife and toddler son. He has tried to smuggle firearms, threatened to kill superior officers and was even recorded to purchasing animals off of craigslist for the sole purpose of killing.

On Sunday, November 12, the Church holds its first memorial service since the mass shooting. The church was completely transformed. It has been painted white from ceiling to floor. It holds 26 white chairs, with 26 roses, each labeled with each passing victim’s name. A recording of certain victims reading bible verses played in the background.

Though it happen states away, people around the world are making prayer circles for the church and its loss on this day. This includes Tennessee which is 804 miles away. A member of a local Korean church stated her concern toward this occurrence.

“At the end of the day, we may not be related to them by blood but we are most definitely all human beings who can and should be concern for the well-being of others. I am praying for the family, for the church and the community.”
